Hey All, First post here - excited to be apart of the community. A little help on this, I have my thoughts but I was wondering what public opinion was on the reverse of this quarter. The "rter Dollar" on the bottom is gone and letters on the E Pluribus Unum are a little off as well - what do you think, Post mint damage or minting error?? Thanks!
It appears to be what is called a "grease filled die". Meaning the die had grease, or possibly some other debris on it when the coin was struck, therefore not properly striking the letters onto the planchet. That is assuming that quarter did not suffer post mint damage. It's a little hard to tell because of all the chatter. Grease filled dies are not considered errors and are quite common. Although usually it's a letter or two missing. Some people do collect them though.
