I've been looking for coins flips which I could transfer most of my collection to, so I could look at it better and take them out time to time. I have only seen two differt kinds, Saflips and Frame a coin. I was wondering if any of these would cause damage to any of the coins or if they contain PVC.

    Thanks, Tyler

I do not collect stamps. I'm strickly a coin roller on a small scale looking for silver and any other coins with premium value or potential for premium value. I never really developed an interestin stamps and up until late last year, have not collected coins since my childhood.

Yeah, Ty. They'll work fine. Just stay away from PVC. I use SAFLIPS.

Which has what to do with the opening post asking about coin flips?

No they do not contain PVC, but yes they can and will damage the coins.

Because these kinds of flips are made from harder, stiffer plastic, they are prone to scratch the coins when the coins are put into the flips or removed from flips much in the same way that an album slide scratches coins. They are also prone, over time, to causing rub or light wear on a coin as the coin moves around inside the flip because of the harder, stiffer, plastic.

That is why, as a general rule, dealers do not use these kind of flips.

When it comes right down to it just about every type coin holder there is can and will damage your coins in one way or another - with one exception, the hard plastic (acrylic) coin holders. They are the only type of coin holders there are that do not damage your coins.

What about rocks? I collected rocks in my childhood but I don't now.

to the op- For the rare or more valuable coins, use the hard plastic holders that Doug mentioned. I use the pvc-free flips for all the others.

I believe he is responding to the advertisement banner that is currently runng for Stampexchange.com. The ad says hello and places your name at the beginning and maybe he thought someone was asking him about stamps?

I am beginning to lean toward cardboard 2x2's inserted into SAFLIPS because regardless of what you do, 2x2's and/or 1 ½ x 1 ½'s, the plastic always gets damaged from being taken in and out of their storage boxes.

SAFLIPS by themselves are good even though rub on the flip can make them appear fogged up AND making a label for each flip can get expensive if you goof enough of them up.

2x2's inside SAFLIPS allows yo to still write on the cardboard and yet protect that cardboard mylar at the same time.

BTW, neither have PVC which IS added to non-consumable plastics to soften the plastic. Swimming pools, shower curtains, etc.
