I guess I didn't make myself clear. Did he base that number on the current price for Grade A copper? If so, it is incorrect. Since the cent is an alloy, the daily price of copper does not apply. I'd like to know what reclamation center he found that will pay the full price of pure copper for any Lincoln cent. All those centers that I contacted are only willing to pay about 25% of the Grade A price. If there are 182 cents to the pound and Grade A copper is currently selling for $3.43 (rounded up), then he would only receive about 86c (rounded up) for $1.82 in Lincoln cents. Of course, if he wants to process the Lincoln cents to extract the copper, himself, before cashing in, that is another story. I wonder how many people have a 2000-degree furnace in their home or garage?

On ebay there is an auction for 10lbs of copper pennies about 15.60 or so value. Then says the melt is worth 32. Or 33.00 dollars. I didnt know you could sell the copper pennies for melt. He wants 26.00 dollars and of course there unsearched. How do you ever make any profit with this. Just wondering since i am very new to this hobby...............????????????????

    You can't.

These types of listings are good for only one person, the seller.

Copper is at $3.43 per lb.

But as Chris pointed out, that's for Grade A copper, not for wheat cents, which is an alloy.

not to hijack the thread or anything, but I have the ability to get the same amount of wheats (5000) for 224.95. Is that a good deal or not?

    Are they a mix of dates or just 40's / 50's ?

presumably a mix. The store has a 1lb bag that costs $8.50 as well. I bought one of those just to see and it had a 1912 as the earliest but mostly were late 30's to 50's. The actual listing for the item says 1909-1958 mixed dates.

Hi all. I usually pay $300 a bag (5000 wheats). If someone can private message me with a source to get bags of wheat for $200 or less, I would be delighted.

My usual source in TN has been sold out for a long while.
    Thanks.
