    I AM JUST GODSMACKED !

A week ago I got a collection into my hands and going trough it I found a bag of kingdom coins from Iceland. If anyone as read my Iceland coins threads they should have seen me ranting about how rare these are in MS.

Last year I found a 1925 2 Kronur that was grated MS65 and is by all means the best sample people have seen. Well untill now.

Holy moly moly holy batman cave ins.

I am just godsmacked. My smile is so big I look like the joker on steroids............

I give you a sample of the 1925 2 Kronur minted in 126.000 and only 7 now MS samples known. And I own two ! I mean talk about karma.

Sorry about the rant hehe and yes I just saw batman ;)

And the funny thing is there are more coins but that later.

Anybody willing to give this a MS guess grade ?

Very outstanding, Siggi. I'm not an expert at grading, but I would say it has a shot at MS67 or MS68. Depends how it looks in hand. Are you going to get it slabbed?

    Congrats Siggi !

But I have to tell you, it reminds me of another incident. There was a time when I was the very proud owner of a particular coin that according to all references only 2 or 3 examples of that coin even existed.

However, over the course of 2 or 3 years, (or maybe it was 3 to 4 years I really don't recall for sure), from just among the members of this forum we were able to confirm the existence of at least 7 of those coins. That of course lends credence to the likelihood that there are even more out there because after all, the members of this forum is a pretty small group.

I'm not trying to deflate your balloon, just trying to make sure you keep that idea in the back of your head ;)

I´ll do my best Shoewrecky ;)

Doug I am well aware of what you are talking about It´s part of what I do and love. Researching rarity’s from Iceland. I have been successful but that´s the exemption from the rule. I would actually love to find rolls of these because that would mean more people would start collecting them and maybe some of us who have studied these would be able to share our knowledge and passion to someone other than our deaf dog.

I have heard grand story’s about kingdom coins like myths of rolls in Denmark and even the odd Icelandic hoarder that is supposed to have these in bags and many coins in private collections but none have turned out to be either true or are still unconfirmed. I have seen the collections and the grading have always been either by amateurs or just wishful thinking. The odd XF- looks like UNC in a collection that has the majority in F condition. As little of these coins were minted they were used till they disappeared. The coins you see here was a part of a myth I had heard and is now confirmed. But this was the only one that had some chance of being true the provenance was good.

In 1925 there were 100.000 Icelanders and I am not kidding when I say that maybe 50 of those had any kind of money and none of them would be considered millionaires. And because 2 Kronur was such a large amount, collectors here in Iceland agree that people simply did not have the means to take a sample and put it in a box. We were starving and living in shags eating our shoes.

The number I say are a current number of coins known. And my samples are the finest to be found since 1982. That sample was found abroad by a man on a specific search around Europe of the rare Icelandic Kingdom coins in uncirculated condition. That coin was later given to the husband of the queen of Denmark who was a collector. That for me tells me that the story of rolls in Denmark, are most likely not true. And also the fact that the Danish mint was not allowed selling coins out of the mint. But that rule as you know has been broken many times.

My gut tells me that every time I find these " twice now " I’m finding something extraordinary and until I can prove myself wrong I say that this will most likely be the finest sample found in private collection ;)

Super nice coin my friend. I looked it over as best as I can from your picture and I think it has a very good chance of grading a ms66. I really didnt see any contact marks and the only thing I seen was a depression running across the I in Island which is due to the metal being rolled when making the sheet for punching into planchets but other then that it looks to be the best one ever seen by me.
And as far as other 1925 2 kronur's in Unc we only have 4 comfirmed,,my two and your two coins....A dealer in Canada had one listed in UNC/BU but sold it be I had the chance to contact him. and with the one that the king of Denmark has make it a total of 6 of them ......Well there maybe be others out there but after 9 years of searching for Unc Kingdom coins we only have 4 confirmed UNC's.
The story you told about the Icelandic people being poor around the time of the minting of these coins are true and I have said the same thing myself People just did not have the means to collect these coins,,,,,,

But I must say Siggi that your new coin maybe the exception to the rule as you stated about coins not being sold to the public because i didnt see any contact marks on yours ,,,Telling me that this coin possibly never went it to a bag and was proply set aside after it was made.....maybe to be given to someone of importance in Iceland. ..Its very hard for a coin not to have a few or even one mark on it.
Well Siggi all I can say is that you are no lucky dog. Congrad's my friend on a great score.
