Coin is golden, not copper in color. It appears slightly thinner that a standard state quarter. I have not been able to get it on a scale yet, it feels lighter. Edge shows no layering and is the same color. Pictured next to standard quarter to show color difference.
    Any ideas

I'd guess that it's gold plated

I agree, many companies sold the state quarter sets, usually gold, silver, or platinum plated, many collectors consider these damaged, and are worth face value.

I'm inclined to agree with Arthur and Dsmith on this one Harley. There was a time they used to sell these plated quarters on all of the TV coin shows and a lot of folks bought the hype that the huckster sellers were spewing back then. Many folks paid a dear premium for these coins only to find out later (when they went to sell) that dealers would only offer them face value for their collections.

Yep, I agree as well. More and more of these TV show and mail order items have been showing up in circulation lately, (and of course then showing up on CT). :)

Those coin vault guys made so much money off these things...ugh.

Well, I guess it will work with 3 other quarters to buy me a cup of coffee. Thanks for the responses all.
