RPM or sloppy work...you tell me! (It's a 1997 D Dime)

    Here she blows. Was searching pocket change and the mint mark jumped out and nearly smacked me in the face:yes::p

    Looks like a decent amount of die deterioration... (the lines extending towards the edge from the bottom of the mintmark). I'd just chalk it up to that.

    It cannot be an RPM because mintmarks have not been hand-punched into Working Dies since 1990/1991 (depending on denomination).

    I don't think die deterioration would cause that "splatter" effect if you will?

    Any other ideas?

    Yep, I agree with Hobo that it's die deterioration.

    I hate to put it to you this way but it's a good microscopic shot of strike doubling coupled with something that doesn't mean anything.
