Look at this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1834-Capped...99?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4d035e6b53 That obverse can't be right. Is this a counterfeit?
What makes you think it is a fake anyway? Do you think it is struck or cast or altered? Just curious.
Looks good to me. What do you see that makes you think it is fake, Ruben? (Are you saying you think the PCGS holder is fake, too?)
Auch - wait a second. That is not the right one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1834-Capped...99?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4d035e6b53
I haven't looked at many either. It does look a little wrong. Looks 'soft' lack of detail but hard to see since its so worn. Im 50/50 on it.
Looking closer, I don't like the beak hook and placement of air hole on the beak. They are not very similar at all. Is anyone here a CBQ expert and can tell us if this is just a die variety? I don't remember if I have Brown, (Brown for CBQ, right?)
I do see some differences between the eBay coin and the PCGS coin, but they may simply be die differences. The first star (at the 5 o'clock position) is oriented differently on the two coins. The top of the beak points to "AT" on the PCGS coin, but to the "A" on the eBay coin. In the PCGS coin, the 2 of "25" is higher than the 5, but they are even on the eBay coin. The topmost lines in the shield are horizontal on the eBay coin, but slightly slanted on the PCGS coin. These are mighty small differences, but I can see them, and presume you can too. Didn't someone* write a book on this series of quarters, analogous to the Overton book on half dollars? *Valentine??
