Search results on Teletrade going back ~3 years for that exact grade indicate they go for about $30, though the most recent, in January of this year, went for $60. Average market price is about $50
This one sold for about $40 yesterday including S/H http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5Fu6l89u4ND8aEdMJ6IFk%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
That was what I assumed, but I wasn't sure....this was one of the coins I took to the coin shop, he told me $12.35 scrap value, and "do you wanna sell it now"? Creep
I think you're misinterpreting some things. "Average Market Price" is the average price of the various price guides and so forth...the average price within market guidelines. The $60 was an aberration, and noted as one. You've conveniently left out the numerous other citations in the $30-$40 range. An INDIVIDUAL might give you $30-$40 for it...maybe...but YOU get the fun of listing it, promoting it, shipping it, and hanging on to it and keeping it safe in the meantime. YOU get to spend time traveling to meet the buyer, or post the package. YOU get to spend the effort in showing the coin to a buyer, or photographing it. YOU get to pay the sellers premium, or final value fee, or listing fee. I'm sorry, but it's just not that special of a coin. What would it have taken to make you feel less insulted? A $20 offer maybe? $25? At that price, as a "collectible" it just isn't worth a dealer's time and effort for what is likely to barely be enough profit to buy dinner at McDonald's.
OK, I didn't "conveniently leave out" anything...or "misinterpret" anything...I never mentioned price until your first response...I simply posted a coin to ask advice of value...I am new at this and this is a helpful site... I am simply trying to find my way in this new world I was dropped in, and gather some advice... The word YOU was capitalized a few times, and there mention of "profit" and "dealers time" and this is what the coin shop owner stressed to me 35 times in 15 minutes so one can only assume the obvious.... Thank you for taking the time to respond to my thread...
You did, actually...you quoted, very carefully, the parts of responses that gave the highest values, leaving out portions of (or entire) responses giving lower values. Well, right. Because, see, business owners are in business to make a profit. I know, that's an evil word these days, but some of us still believe a man's time and effort are worth something. Somehow I doubt you sat there and counted the number of times the word "profit" was used, but ok, you seem given to hyperbole, we'll go with it. Why shouldn't he? You seem either unable, or unwilling, to accept the idea that he seeks financial gain, and that doing so is perfectly reasonable. I'm ignorant here. What "obvious" thing is one presuming?
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post and voicing your opinion on my coin..At this time, I do not wish to debate you on sales practices, and how coin dealers make profits. The truth is, I should not have written this response either, but I didn't want to be ignorant and push it by the wayside, since you took the time to write back. Happy selling....
