Was it the "Swastika",the "1 Reichspfennig",the "1943" or the "Deutsches Reich" that makes you think that? LOL

Yeah, I know. I was stating the obvious. I just looked at it so quick, I didn't even pay attention to the date and the swastika the first time.

What's interesting to me is the spread of dates. The cents were easily in circulation together, but the dime is decades younger. What makes the place you found them one where people have been losing coins for so long, do you reckon?

It was an old school site. Thats why the spread of dated coins. Any old spot where people have gathered through the years has a wide variety of dated coins and items. Jim

Really nice find.. I have a question.. How deep did you have to dig to find them.. I look alot... but I sure don't find much.. Most of the time..mine says 8 inch's or more.. and I can't get that deep( cause it makes really big blisters) grins.. and when I dig the 2-4 inch down, I just find new coins...

Are these coins you find in the ground worth anything numismatically though?

Yes they are. I just sold an 1878 indian head penny for $40.00 and a 1890 Indian head for $21.00 on the bay. Plus sold a lot of em last winter.

Greetings from a fellow detector. The German coins is zinc based and will ozidize FAST. The German Reich used the precious metals for the war effort so their wartime coinage was pretty much "junk" metal. I have quite a few and you can greatly slow down the oxidation if you use Renaissance Wax. It is a micro crystalline wax that museums use to preserve their valuable metal objects. I use an old Fisher 1265x and it still finds me treasures.
