I finally found a seated liberty half I like. It's a PCGS 1853 VF25 with rays and arrows. As I've experiences prices seem to fluctuate wildly with this set going from posted value to double posted value. So what do y'all think would be a reasonable amount to pay for this? Thanks

    $115 would be my limit.

If it is just average it should earn an average price. $100-$120. A really nice one might go for twice that.

Pay more for a great coin. You will never regret it.

It is average. And yes I would normally pay more (quality over quantity) but I'm not in a position for that and I feel I can always upgrade it. And I didnt add a pic because I want a overall value that wasn't accessed based on looks. thanks again everyone.

PCGS lists the value at $105 and have graded 15 in that grade, numismedia.com has the value for a VF20 at $138, and after I made my post before, I found one on eBay that sold for $72 with free shipping.

I had asked for an image because eye appeal (aka "looks") drives the price of a coin as much as any other factor save perhaps grade.

To me, eye appeal is everything and it is certainly an important factor in determining value.

The one I asked about was this one...

I've also been following this au53, it's eye pleasing to me ;)

Just as has been discussed before, there is really no sense in leaving out aspects of a coin that can play a large part in it's value.

Is this a coin (type) you just have to buy soon? If not, it may be best to wait until you can afford the "right" example. However, if you do want one now, find the absolute best coin you can for whatever money you have. It is usually better to go with an excellent example of a lower grade than to buy an average coin in a higher grade.

If the coin in question is the one listed on a certain auction site, you could do much better IMO.

I realize you must simply hate it when I post to your threads since it appears that I do not give you encouragement or, at the very least, I do not always like the coins in the link, but I will post anyway. The VF25 does not look like a nice coin while the AU50 may be okay. The VF25 is a piece that looks to have seen someone remove a fair bit of dirt or grime to lighten the surfaces of the coin. It is not very nice, but you can wait for others to give their opinions, too.

The range the others have posted is about right for that grade. I've been looking for a nice honest certified arrows/rays for a while...in the same range as you too. Be patient. There are enough out there that you can either find an average one cheap (ie around 80 or 90 bucks) or one you really like and might be willing to shell out a bit more for (for around 110-120).
