found this guy looking through change in my register, paid a penny for it so either way im not worried...if an error what would the value of this be?
I agree with Richard . it looks like something got between two coins and stuck them together. when the coins were pulled apart it left a impression of the other coin in the glue or whatever it is.
the gouge looking area is probably because the glue may be missing in this area. don't feel bad at yourself , glue has tricked a lot of us over the years. you can probably remove the glue by using finger nail polish remover and a q-tip .
1) It looks like the memorial is in relief, not incuse. I don't think it looks like a hammer job, or like a coin was stuck to this one with glue. But it does look sort of glue-ish overall. 2) NOT FINGERNAIL POLISH REMOVER! It's got other stuff in it that can ruin a coin, especially copper. I'd start with a distilled water soak first, and see if there's something stuck on the surface of the coin that softens up. If not, then try acetone from the hardware store, NOT nail-polish remover.
Thank you for that..i didnt want to use polish until I heard from someone...what if it is still there, then can I consider it error??
that's what I should have said , I just didn't think of it. that bench grinder idea would get rid of the glue in a hurry .
Might need some heavier duty cleaning than that...but, can I ruin penny with pure acetone....if I attempt that I wanna know risks and maybe a bit of intruction, never tried to clean a coin before so any insight will be awsome
IMO, cleaning your cent is not worth the time or effort. From what I've read here on CT, acetone is not good to use on copper, but isopropyl alcohol and distilled water are the only acceptable cleaning agents.
Me and rickmp was just making a joke about using a bench grinder . I have used nail polish remover many times and acetone to get glue off coins. it don't seem to hurt the copper coins . If this is super glue it will be hard to remove. I'm about 100% sure this is some kind of glue .
I knew it was a joke lmao im not a dumbass...thanks all I just soaked it in distilled water and some glue is coming off...well like I said I paid face value so no biggie
