Both these coins are listed in my Krause catalogue from 2008 as being "Nickel-Silver." Are these actually silver with a nickel mix or are they Copper-Zinc-Nickel (Cu 65.0, Zn 17.0, Ni 18.0)? El Salvador 1952 5 Centavos KM #134a, 5.0000g, Nickel-Silver, 23mm Haiti 1953 10 Centimes KM #60, Nickel-Silver
Nickel-Silver, German Silver, Copper-Nickel, different names for an alloy of Copper, Nickel and other base metals. None contain silver.
The Schön says the coin from El Salvador - 1952 was apparently minted in the US - is Cu Ni12 Zn18. (Which means Cu70, I guess; the 1977 issue minted in France is Cu65.) For the coin from Haiti it just mentions the Cu-Ni-Zn alloy, without further details. Christian
