Jefferson 1989 P Lamination Error?

    When I first saw this coin, I thought it was pmd. But when I looked at it a second time, it looks like an extra thin piece of metal on Jefferson. Where the metal has peeled back you can see the UST on both the "extra" layer and underneath. Did a piece of a previously struck coin stick to the die and transfer over to this coin?     Very interesting... I can't say it isn't PMD but it is certainly worth looking at closer. Any chance you can get better pictures of the affected area? Kinda looks like it got caught is something but hard to tell from the pic.

    Looks like a combination lamination and defective planchet.

    It was a defective planchet to begin with in my opinion, that was then struck. I see the design where it belongs in the damaged areas. I don't know the value, but I think it is a nice mint error.

    Cool! I don't really care about the value. I like the stuff I find and keep them. The plan is to save them for my 6 year old daughter and she can do what she wants with them. Thanks for the help.
