On Ampex, they are selling an NGC complete set of silver eagles from 1986 to 2006,MS-69 for $719.00.Is that a terrible deal? Am thinking 10-15 Years. Thanks
Lets break this down. 21 ASE's ungraded but for all purposes 69's should run about $300.00 most coin shops. Then you have them graded---21X$15.00 = $315.00. Totaling $615.00, so for an extra $100.00 you'll get them already slabbed at MS69 with no more issues. Granted the prices could go either way a bit but not a "BAD" deal if your going to hold them for a couple of decades. I personally love this coin in its natural state. They are easy to graded because problems are usually minor and stick out like a sore thumb. I keep mine in airtites in a nice coin display case and man they sure look beautiful all together. Of course the Walker engraving is one fine piece of work. I'm glad they select to it commemorate in 99.9% silver.
Just after the Super Bowl I bought a complete set of slabbed NGC MS-69's for close to that price. I did a lot of searching online for the best deal. My suggestion, go to your nearest coin dealer and ask what he can get the entire set for. If you wait a few months the price will go up by one more coin! My dealer said he could have gotten me one for less. Just do some research.
It is a price that is pretty competitive with some other internet dealers. For example, mintproducts.com has a set of NGC graded MS69s for $795. Will they be higher in 10 years? Probably, but nobody knows for sure. But walterallen pointed out something that you might want to consider. For the price of one graded set, you could probably have a dealer put together two sets in airtites for you. I love the SAEs, but I would buy them ungraded and just buy twice as many. Just tell the dealer you don't want any coins with obvious markings that will significantly lower the grade and you'll probably end up with two very nice sets.
I bought a set from them back when it was $594.00. I just like the set. So I went ahead and bought it. MIKE
So, it was one coin less than when I bought mine and one less coin than bdev4 is going to buy his. Therefore each coin about $30 slabbed or more? That is about right, Right?
If you are interested in the coins from an investment (in silver bullion) perspective, stay away! Raw, you could purchase nearly two complete sets for the price of one NGC 69 set.
If you collect them because you love the coins and you want them protected and graded, then in 50+ years or more if you hand them off you will have a great investment.
I must agree with Walterallen, I keep mine in air-tites bought two sets for the price of a N.G.C. ms-69 set they look gust fine in my coin trays. And mine I think our ms-69 I like them because of the Adolph Weinman design one of the most beautiful desinged coins of all time.
