I have this coin from Turkey that I cannot date or value properly I read somewhere you can read the year and value in the middle circle but I cannot read Turkish Anyone has more information on it?
It looks like a brass dancer costume imitation coin. The language is meaningless Arabic script, not Turkish.
I have a small, Egyptian silver coin with similar features. I believe the ornate inscription at the center of the reverse is the signature of the reigning sultan at the time. On my coin, the date consists of two parts: The year when the sultan's reign began, and the number of years later that the coin was actually minted. They used a different calendar system than ours, so once you have the date it needs to be converted. I simply found a table of Arabic characters to date mine, I forget where I found the conversion from their calendar to ours. I don't know anything else about it, and I can't make out all the characters from the picture. Hopefully someone else can help.
I can't read the second number in the date, but it looks like it's an AH 1223(1808) Look up the gold Hayriye Altin coins. They were issued in 3 denominations, 1/2 Hayriye Altin at 0.8600g Gold, 1 Hayriye Altin at 1.7300g Gold and 2 Hayriye Altin at 3.5500g Gold.
