The nickel is actually 35% silver, after circulating awhile they turn a sort of greenish yellow colour - which is how they usually stick out like little sore thumbs whence I am sifting through piles of nickels looking for little treasures. But like the 1943 steel cents there were businesses back in the 1980s that were reprocessing(harshly cleaning) and then plating them with chrome and selling them in sets in those back of magazine adverts. The nickel has about $1.50 worth of silver in it. The Canadian 10 cent coin is 80% silver. All in all you did very well on your 26 cents spent
sure is great! i can only seem to find dimes anymore, i havent run into a silver quarter in a long time and nickels will come in spurts and then i wont see them for a bit
I have searched dimes that my bank takes in and bags and sends to the Fed, but while I always find silver I just don't think it is worth all the work to sift through 10,000 coins to find 3-4 coins.
i havent gotten into roll hunting yet, but when i have to break open a new roll at work i always scope it out
