If a request to release a vehicle is made and the "appropriate fees are tendered" and documentation establishing that the person requesting release is entitled to possession of the vehicle.

Doesn't specify anything about pennies in that lengthy link, and appropriate fees, US legal tender, were presented. Game, set ,match.

Apparently you either haven't read other people's posts, or you believe we are a bunch of incompetent liars.
In case you didn't realize it, the United States Code is the codification of all laws passed by the Congress of the United States and signed by the President of the United States. Whatever may constitute a debt in the rest of the world, §101(12) of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code authoritatively defines it in the United States.

I never said anything about "checkmate", and I'm neither playing chess, nor any other game with you. What I am going to do is stop wasting my time in this thread. I come to CoinTalk for education and amusement, not irritation. Thank you Peter for including the "Ignore List" on the User Control Panel.

oooo...the bitterness...sounds like you have been towed a few times ...LOL.

I rode on a tow truck while I worked my way through college and if towing those that park illegally is botton feeding ..I'm all for it.

If you don't follow the law, you'll get towed. I'd take those pennies...lol. Sooner or later they will learn that no parking means no parking ...duh.

No disrespect, but have you ever tried to park in a place like center city Philadelphia? Imagine 5000 people vying for about 500 (ocassionally available) spots? People double, triple park in the middle of Broad street, all day, every day. Doesn't make it right but some folks don't have a choice, and Philly exploits the issue for profit BIG TIME.

Dude, my dad went to Southwestern SOL as well, and (I hope to after I finish college) great school, if I'm not mistaken it's one of the only accredited 2 year programs.

Can we drop this subject now?

If you watch "Seinfeld", you should recall what happened to Kramer when he tried to pay for his calzones with pocket change...needless to say, he didn't get his calzones.

I see tow trucks as vultures. Certainly they do a job that is needed in many cases (when you have AAA). But IMO, if you are going to steal my car and hold it for ransom unless I pay you...when I already obviously have a fine to pay as well. Then you are on my sh*t list and I dont care what anyone says...there are VERY FEW situations where I think taking a persons car is warranted...They want to impound your car in hopes that you are, like many, low on cash so they can keep it...scum I say!! So I dont feel for them at all, good show.

The case that I thought was unwarranted was the guy who insisted on paying for a restaurant meal in pennies...the waiter doesn't deserve that...they are just doing a job and serving you...why give HIM such grief...but tow truck driver? Good show!!! My uncle was a tow truck drive...I met many of his associates...all fat...greasy...sitting in that truck waiting for misfortune so they can add to it.

Yes...I am bitter, I had my car towed for a ticket I failed to appear on (tag was expired)...so not only do I have to pay the ticket + fees, I had to pay to get my car back from the impound...at a time when I didnt have the money to do so. I didnt have the tag because my cars emissions failed, couldnt get another car...couldnt pay the ticket...couldnt pay to get the car out...so they kept my car. They dont care who they ruin.

In this case the law worked both ways and they had to accept the cents ~ Thus my first post in this thread. In my second experience it was not posted and the person that called for a tow truck didn't own the property. I am with Drusus where there are many companies that operate with more interest in making as much money as possible at anyone's expense. I have know some great towers too who actually operate a fair business and are very helpful. Still stand buy the kid(s) just shared in the inconvenience of the situation but were well within the law. If the cops were called and time wasted it was only because the tow company didn't want to follow the letter of the law that they are so quick to quote when it suits them. Who's really to blame here?

Its not ridiculous. And there are many cases where I live , where tow companies tow just cause, then instantly put leans on the cars, which is wrong. And.....a difficult time. Screw tow companies and their own scams. Im glad this kid did this. Little karma doesn't hurt. The cops? They were and probably as we speak just planning out their pensions, and their little tricks with overtime. He could've had them rolled, I agree. Still, F tow companies and their shady business practices.

Last month, our " mall cop" for our gated neighborhood. Was arrested cause he had a tie in with our local tow company, and they were doing kick backs and all sorts of crap. Tow industry is just a sweaty arm pit gland.

You do realize this is a towing company right? You think a towing company should be able to refuse anyone? (i.e. meaning they can keep someones car permanently by continually refusing them?)

I'm confused, is a fine that is not yet paid, not also a debt? I would assume it would be......

    Aaaaaaaaaaaand they're both wrong.

    Snopes says:

But hey, perhaps you'd [refer a more authoritative source, like say the US Treasury who says:

There's nothing awesome about an ignorant citizen celebrating his misguided insistence that a business must bow to his will when no such standard exists.

Even less awesome is another group of misinformed citizens celebrating his ignorance.
