So A neighbot of mine gave me this coin that seems to be from asia but I have no way of telling what it is. It seems to be pretty old and is kinda dirty , but I have heard it is best not to clean some coins so sorry ahead of time! Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you! so sorry about the quality so I tried to write out the symbols the same way they are on the coin ( the square is the center ) I know it isn't much to go on but if you could give me a basic idea that would be wonderful!
It's definitely Chinese, as the writing on the back is in Manchu. So it must be a coin minted during the Qing dynasty. I'm not much of an expert on Asian coins, though.
It is an one-cash coin from Ch'ing Dynasty of China. The obverse legend reads Dao Guang Tong Bao (Tao-kuang T'ung-pao) in Chinese characters and the reverse legend reads Bao Quan in Manchu characters. The Emperor Tao-kuang is the sixth emperor of the Ch'ing Dynasty and ruled from 1821 to 1851. Bao Quan is the mint mark, which means this coin was casted in one of the two royal mints in Peking. The other mint was Bao Yuan. Coins from these two mints are more common than those from provincial mints. Hope this will help! Assur
Assur answered perfectly. If you wished to know value, these are about the most common Chinese cash coins that exist, so its value is very low, like maybe 30 cents. Enjoy it as an interesting souvenir.
