OK, I know this topic has been done to death...but I have a question. I have been thinking about switching from the Dansco/Whitman type albums to creating my own using Intercept shield type 2x2s in pages. You guys have recommend the intercept shield 2x2s and from what I have seen-those tend to protect the best and they have a nice look.

My fear with the Dansco books I currently use is my red copper coins will eventually turn brown due to the air. I have been told that these 2x2s will prevent that because they are air tight? Is that true?

Also, what kind of pages seem to hold these the best and look nice? If possible, I would want to find pages that could hold a slabbed coin as well (I know, a little bigger-but I'm looking at my options at the moment)-but if I wanted to put together and display a set I would want key coins to be slabbed and in the album with the other coins. Like I said, my current albums make me nervious with the air flow and I'm affraid that adding new coins will damage the coins already present because of sliding the plastic flaps.

Anyway, what ever I do, I want it to look nice and protect the coins. I know that is probably overly picky-but at the moment my funds are pretty limited so I don't want to blindly experiment on my own.

The Intercept Shield holders are not airtight. They work because the I/S material neutralizes any contaminants in the air that does get into the holder and protects the coin.

As for the pages, you can buy them with pockets of different sizes. Buy pages that hold the smaller I/S holders and buy other pages that will hold the slabs.

Maybe I'm being nastalgic, but I still have all my Flying Eagles and Indian Heads in a Whitman album my dad got for me in 1987. I will check out my coins when I go home to see if they have changed. It would be "not cool" if my toned 1900 Indian Head had changed.

And I just seem to like the Whitman blue over the Dansco brown.

Would they still prevent red copper coins from becoming brown (or at least help to prevent) or is there a better type of holder for that?

Yes it would, and to my knowledge there is no better holder.

OK, so thats what I think I will go with. Are there any specific pages that work the best or look nicer or are they all pretty much the same?

That's my opinion also. Don't know about others but I've been collecting for well over 50 years and use the Whitman Classic Albums. Back when I was a kid the only thing was the Whitman Folders. Since I've move everything into the albums. Lincoln Cent Album #1 and 2 are kept in a plastic freezer bag and as much air squeezed out as possible. Many of the coins are from way, way back then and still look the way they did when I put them in the Albums. No discolorations, no tonings, no spotting, no nothing. Just the way they looked when I put them there.
Dansco is supposed to be made better but I just like Blue.
