I know its a semi-key date in the v-nicekl series but look at the condition. I found her about a month ago metal detecting. Funny thing is I found one a few years back but in better condition but it was still all rusty looking from being in the ground for years. Jim
I think you might be surprised how much you could get for it. I'm not saying to quit your day job, but I bet someone would love to fill that empty hole in their Dansco. Actually looking at the same date on eBay, your coin looks pretty good.
I guess I can give you one of my bent nickels, Jim. But only the slightly bent one. Not the one with the 90-degree bend. That one's special.
I agree that it is worth keeping or selling. If you sell it, build a little story around it regarding the fact that it was found metal detecting. Describe the place and what was going on there around 1886. Mention that it is a key date in the series. I'll bet there is a good shot at selling it for $50+ on Ebay.
I hate to use the "C" word but I bet it would clean well. I'm not saying a harsh cleaning but maybe a distilled water soak to break up some of the heavy deposits. It may be a great looking coin under the deposits. Of course it has value as it is too.
I say keep it how it is. It shows that it has a story behind it, which might make it more valuable to some collectors.
no. when you can identify the piece it is at least AG-3 not G4... G4 needs a bit more. And this coin has a damaged surface. So I wouldn't think it is worth over $200
Well, its been on the bay for a few days and its up to $26.00 with one day left. The other 1886 I found and sold on the bay was in better condition and you could even read the Liberty in the band and that only fetched $80.00. But I'll take whatever I get because it only cost me my time to find it. Jim
