ok... I have been talking for a long time about assembling a proof set from 1962 (my birthyear) in Ultra Cameo. Some may not know that prior to 1973, Ultra Cameo proofs are generally the exception and NOT the rule as they are today, thus making the coins a bit harder to find and REALLY hard to find at a decent price. I have been assembling this set for over 2 years and on my birthday yesterday I received the last coin to complete the set! Now, while none of these coins are rare, in fact, 1962 Proof Sets are pretty plentiful, but the cameo proofs are less common. That said, there's a bit of a high risk - high reward game when it comes to slabbing them. Not many people will take the gamble on such a common coin, so there are small populations certified. I made finding a nice Cent and Nickel more difficult than one would imagine, especially on a budget. The common mirror proofs command virtually no premium. The Cameo proofs garner a small premium, but The Ultra Cameo proofs garner a good premium and in the case of Franklin Half Dollars a large premium, especially at PF-67 and above. So, without further adieu, I'd like to present my now complete 1962 US Proof Set in Ultra Cameo (NGC) My apologies for 13 pictures, I put them in the next few posts so that this introduction would at least load faster.
If you want to see some interesting facts check out the PCGS population report on proof Franklins compared to proof Walkers. Franklins look good to me in high end Proofs and mint state. Nice set you have!!!! Jim
