so if this is a cud, which looks like pics i have seen, i noticed there are different types? rim cud? retained cud? and so on. what kind is this? are the missing letters on the back a result of the front? or is it 2 errors in one? advice appreciated.
That's a beauty! Yes, the weakness on the back is a result of the missing part of the die that created the cud on the coin.
That's right. To elaborate a little... The cud is part of the die that broke off leaving a void in the die. This does not create the pressures needed within the striking chamber to transfer the opposing reverse design.
