camaro, i do appreciate your approach to helping me. you have a easy going attitude and accept my inexperience for what it is. i am fairly new, and learning alot about differences in coins. i have a base knowledge so im not dumb either. i strictly started out collecting junk silver coins (like this one) but thought i could use a nicer junk silver (like this one) to learn a grading curve and use it for my personal acquisitions since i cant take you guys with me to every coin store.

I think that is a great idea. It's a great place to start because you aren't risking any money on your grading abilities. You bought the coins as bullion (which is the minimum they can be worth) and you are using them to practice. The 1964 dimes (and quarters for that matter) were produced in a lot higher quantities than the other dates...so they are pretty common. Combine that with the fact that everyone knew it was the last year of silver coinage, so they were hoarded like crazy. As a result, many were saved in high grade so they are very common in high grade...and therefore only very choice MS examples are worth much above melt. I personally have a graded MS66 1964-D dime in my collection that has some attractive toning and I didn't pay a whole lot for it.
