That trade dollar is a beautiful example of why coins do not always need to be MS to be nice. Good pickup.

Picked up 4 books at an antique mall last weekend. A 1955 (8th Edition), 1964 (17th Edition) & 1970 (23rd Edition) issues of the Guidebook to United States Coins....aka....The Red Book. Also got a 1954 (11th Edition) of the Handbook of United States Coins with Premium List...aka...The Blue Book. The 1970 Red Book was $1.00, the others were $2.00.

The Blue Book was stamped 9 times by Chicago coin dealer Bill Mertes.

Newest ancient to my set. This one is one of the rarest reverse for this particular empress.

Now I only need 3 for this particular lady and I will be done.

Still have 7 to go on the other empress though :(

    Crispina (178 - 182 .D.)

O: CRISPINA AVGVSTA, draped bust right.
    R: DIS GENITABILIS, lighted altar.

Apparently commemorating an altar dedicated by the empress in hope of or thanks for a blessing of fecundity from the dii genitales.

Just back from grading. From a group of 12 Lincoln proofs either raw or in other 3rd party slabs with instructions for PCGS to crack out and grade as raw. All passed, a few with better results than expected.

Sweet cmcart, thats a beautiful coin, I'm sure its even better in hand! To anyone here - Is the difference between Proof Like and Deep Mirror Proof Like obvious?

Coin dexter - haha, that picture reminds me of that State Farm commercial where those two guys are in the car and that buffalo attacks them.
