My favorite animal was almost always an eagle since I was young, another reason why I love U.S. coins! I just saw the 2008 bald eagles commemorative's. I am now in love with these coins I need to pick one up. Has any one else found any commemorative's that they like/love? Why?
Oregon Trail. To me, this one ranks next to the buffalo nickel in beauty and US cultural importance in design. Beautiful coin that really tells a story.
Mine would have to be Gettysburg, the design is synonymous with that particular event during the civil war era. The designers did a good job making that happen back in the day.
So can we play a game of "which of these things is not like the others?" I am not meaning metal..... Very pretty coins btw. I have always loved the charter oak.
Man, THAT is a pretty coin. I really love the toning on the obverse. It almost looks like the sunset is colorized! Outstanding!
Let's not get Chris too enthused about commem's and try and keep him over in the ancients arena. We don't need no extra competition.....
I have a few, but I think I am busy enough for now with Sassanid, Sogdian, Kushan, Skythian, etc. Never know though, I have been known to be bored at a coin show before.
Sweet indeed. I got a chance to hold one at a coin show a few years ago. I explained to the dealer that I could in no way afford the coin, but if I could just get a closer look, I'd be most obliged. He indulged me.
Here's one of my favorites .
