watch out for the 2003 cent. It has 4 varieties because it was issued during the transition period. there's plated and unplated (P and no P); new effigy and old effigy of the Queen.
Yes, became aware of that looking through the material we got at the Canadian Numismatic Association show. I have the three varieties of the 2003s that we don't have coming to us now. (Too inexpensive to resist.) By way of further update... Thalia and I are almost done with the folder! There are just four coins left, three are tougher 1920's dates and the 1999-P would be the last one, although I am not sure whether I want to count it. Special thanks to those of you who generously helped out my young collector with this project!
Wow, thanks for this information! And well, that's a nice thread, I'm just doing the contrary... I'm looking for USA cents in my Canadian money! Not started the sorting yet, but I know there are some very old I wouldn't find as canadian coins! Just like that 1920 wheat I found some days ago... didn't believe it! That coin was in circulation. As for my canadian one cent collection, only some varieties are missing for the large cents and the small cents, the dot one is missing, obviously, and 3 of the key dates I never looked to purchase yet, I'll ask Moen... Max :hail:
The 1999P one cent was not issued for circulation. It was available only as part of a five coin multi-ply plated steel brilliant uncirculated set of that year, mintage limited to 20,000. FYI, there are actually 6 pieces in the set, the 6th being a medallion. Despite the low mintage, the 1999-P can be readily acquired (ie. they show up on eBay with regularity).
