    Hello all,

Does anyone know if / when the U.S. Mint "clarified" (for lack of a better word) its dies of George Washington's profile in the '32 - '98 Washington quarters series? I was going through my clad collection with a magnifying glass in preparation for getting them into a Dansco and I noticed that the features on '96 and '98 coins is "sharper" (like Washington is using hair gel or something) than coins from the '70s and '80s (like he's not and his hair is puffier).

Is this just my eyes playing tricks on me? I can't find anything in the Redbook about Washington die changes during the early 90s.

They added more hair detail in '89 and then added more yet again in '95. Then in '98 they came out with what is referred to as spaghetti hair.
