199x-D (1992? D) unreeded dime, smooth beveling on both sides of coin (obscuring last digit of date), reeding completely gone with copper showing - is this a legit error? [photos]. Debating sending this one to NGC for grading, I've never seen one like this before. What would cause this? Vending machine damage? Some sort of strike errror? The beveling is too even and matches on both sides for this to be made after the fact I feel. Thoughts?

    Respectfully,

Just a very worn dime. The reeding will wear with the coin.

    Not an error. PMD.

what would cause the even wearing on both sides?

If it were struck through, there would be reeding. If it was a weak strike/die adjustment strike, there would be an area of design weakness on some places other than the peripheral design as is common with weakly struck dimes. This is PMD.

I appreciate the analysis. It was in pocket change and looked unusual.

As others have implied, both faces were attacked with a grinder or polishing device. It's not an error.
