Hello all, I am new to the sight and I am just starting to collect error coins. I have purchased a few and found several looking through change. There was one on ebay I likebut before I bid I was wondering if any one could give me a rough value as to what it is worth. The ebay # is 320011423217. Sorry I do not know how to make it like some of the other postings I have seen where it is there to click on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for any help.
I'd say in that condition not to pay more than $5 for it. Even in MS63 your only looking at $15. Id wait for a better one or buy one that is slabbed by a TPG if you really like that error. It wont be much more than you were going to pay in the 1st place. Cheers & Welcome to the forum !
About a dollar or two. I've certainly seen prettier, but it is a neat variety. If there weren't so awful many for that particular year, it'd likely be worth more. Fish
to CoinTalk fastfun. Here is a courtesy link. I'm no expert on errors, but I see more than 1 when I look at that auction. The 1955 Double Die is a well known (and often counterfeited) variety cent; but it's a Philadelphia issue, not Denver. IMHO this is definitely a "too good to be true" offering. A genuine repunched mintmark with that degree of offset should have attracted multiple bids in its nearly two days on the site at a nominal opening bid; but apparently none of the experts who have undoubtedly seen it by now have shown any interest. It certainly isn't the "vertical over horizontal" mint mark which is the only 1955D variety listed at this site devoted to valuable Wheaties!
Welcome to the site NewGuy111. I suppose you are going to need to change your name if you stick around here a lot....If you don't get it (a joke) because you'll have many posts-ahhh whatever. The coin-IF you really want it then get it, I don't want to stop you. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on a coin like that, then I suggest that you buy a bag of 5000 wheats and take a loupe to all the MMed coins to look for errors. You are bound to find loads of errors. It's just a suggestion. That's a beautiful coin though for the OMM!
Hello, Thanks for all the info. I have athe Cherry pickers guide and this coin is not listed in it. There is a siniliar one for a 1956 D but none for the 1955 D so do you think there is any chance this is a new rpmm? He also has several others that I may bid on as well. Howdy fastfun - Welcome to the Forum !! There are literally hundreds of coins that are not listed in the Cherrypicker's Guide and yet are quite well known. You just have to know where to look to find out about them. A good place to start is - Right Here You may want to pay particular attention to the link you find in there for CONECA
Actually, I have been watching that as well as 2 others listed below on ebay. It is recognized by CONECA as one of the TOP 100, and RPM#2. I think the reason that coin might be passed over by some is that most would search 1955 D/D rather than "1955 D over D" which is in the title of the coin you are watching. The same person also has the 1956 D/D in another auction~~ check his "list", maybe you can get both at the same time I would probably top at about $5 for an unc if I was bidding ( I personally won't as I have a nice 60 ), but if a nice 64 or 65 came up,I would be interested. I believe that the coin is a nice collectible AU Red Brown specimen of the 1955-D/D RPM #2 and being a Coneca Top 100 for Collectors, I believe that the coin is worth a bit more than a mere $5 so bid accordingly if you really want it! The coin also appears that it has more going on than a "D" over "D" Mint Mark. Look at the top of Lincoln's hair above the forehead and also above the ear. It appears that there is a doubled hairline which may be unique! Frank
