Hello everyone. I don't consider myself a collector of coins, but I do keep peculiar and foreign monies if I find them. This coin was the first one I'd ever found and I've always been curious about it. After a little research I found out it is a Chinese coin...but not much else. Could someone identify this coin? Is it worth anything? Thank you all for the help.

i believe it is a cash coin from emperor sheng zu (1662-1722) minted in kaifeng, henan, between 1667 and 1670. (H22.107) common coin worth about $2 or so. nice coin! :thumb:

side note: your left picture (the reverse or back of the coin) needs to be rotated 90° clockwise.

Are you sure Swish? I agree with your attribution, but that looks like a much scarcer mint. The mint is what makes this coin not a common Ching cash, with Peking mints being extremely common.

You are probably right Swish, and I admit I haven't looked at my Chinese for a while, that just strikes me as an unusual mint. :)

the reference number i believe the coin to be is a "15" in david's book. i could be wrong with the attribution.

Yeah, that would be a very common coin. Maybe I just have been away from my Chinese cash too long. :(

I sure would have picked that one out of a large group of cash as something a little better than the rest.

Nice! I'd have never thought that coin would be older than the country I live in. That's pretty cool. Like I said, I'm not much of a coin collector (in the sense of "modern" coins), but things that old, as well as caribbean, roman coins, etc. have always interested me. They're like treasure, I guess, whether they actually have value or not.

historical value is awesome!! just imagine the stories the coin could tell if it could talk. of course, this coin would need a translator! lol
