you want to spend 40 to 60 thousands dollar on a bulk order of coins? no offense, but if your coming to a chat room to ask how to spend 50 thousand dollars on coins, you should take a step back and do a little research.

Can you tell us more about your application for these dollars? (MS 60 coins?, dates?, purpose?).

Sounds good, let me know when you're heading out and I'll come with. I need to get a used copy of Grey's Sports Almanac.

I'd start by contacting the big boys (like APMEX) to get your bearings, but it seems you should be able to get it more cheaply elsewhere. If you're patient, you should be able to score a roll at a time at very reasonable prices.

A concept I usually keep in mind with online forums is the signal to noise ratio, wherein the signal is the useful information; then I consider the entertainment to sarcasm ratio of which the noise consists. If the signal and entertainment stray too low, I tend to visit less. I find cointalk is a big winner, generally, so don't give up! Oh, and Collect89's question is VERY important:

Be aware that many of such coins will be sliders, Au58 or so. Grading ability will be very important. A well connected dealer can use their network to find bags, but it is somewhat pot-luck. However, it won't necessarily be at a discount as dealer to dealer deal expect what is ordered.

    Welcome to the forum!

People are suspicious of a newbie with a handful of posts wanting to invest a wad of money on a bag of Morgans. Sounds like a "get rich quick" scheme to some folks, I guess.....no hellos, no greetings, just "how do I make a buck?"

I agree, we'll cough up the info in return for a simple gesture such as hello, etc. There are still plenty of Morgan bags to purchase, APMEX like Clint has recommended is a source. Not knowing what grades you're shooting for or whether you're all in for the bullion value is an important item to discuss. We want you to spend your hard earned buck the right way, so many "new guys" get burned in these type of transactions.

silvercent - have you ever bought a bag of Morgans before ? And if you haven't bought one, have you at least looked at the coin in one ? And how much are you expecting to pay ?

What desertgem is telling you is true, only I would go a bit further and say that most of the coins in the bag are not going to be BU. It is completely unrealistic to expect any different.

So if a 1,000 BU Morgans is what you are looking for, you can get them easy enough. But I would not suggest trying to buy them by the bag.

I do believe some dealers that sell bags of circulated ("junk," I hate that term) silver coins also can sell bags of just silver dollars. I have never made an attempt to purchase something of this quantity, let alone expect fairly uniform quality.

If I were in the market for such a large number of coins, I would go slowly, either buying by the roll or nice mint-state collections. Buying in one fell swoop, if they are available in quantity AND quality, may not be wise.

Before I began my latest series of purchases, I tracked eBay sales dealer ads in real time and Coin World ads for specific dates, mintmarks, packaging options, even shipping costs. In that way, I had a theoretical range of prices to compare on paper before I made the purchase. I guess being a longtime purchasing professional, my methodical way or buying anything always rears its head.

And always emphasize quality. You will never go wrong with quality.

I hope this is helpful information and have a good time buying!

thanks for what real info you have provided.

alot of assumptions here (wow) and I didnt come here looking for a job interview but in the continued good nature of things...

I stack morgans , have for a decade, I buy large quantities of morgans
they go into a vault and wont see the light of day until the grandkids
    are senior management.

Need to boost the percentage of BU in this stack. My sources have been cleaned out (mostly by me) and looking for more.

So we cant ask questions, and we cant assume things, when you come here for help?

The only assumption I've come to is this, you've stated you "stacked" morgans for years yet you assume you'll be able to easily purchase a BU Bag of Morgans. I can't even begin to think how much a bag would even go for if one was even around, are they even around?? .. even if a bag was sewn shut they would have to be opened and the likely hood of them being all BU is probably slim to none.

Since you've dried up your water hole venture to the bigger guys like someone has suggested, call all the dealers around you, heck try calling out of state to some bigger ones.. I'm sure they wouldn't mind doing business with you for 1,000 BU Morgans.

I don't recall if you stated if you wanted common BU coins, semi scarce, etc.

If all you want is common BU coins I don't think you should have that much of a problem, might take awhile but since the grandkids have plenty of time to grow up I'm sure you'll be able to meet your quota of 1,000 in a relatively short timeframe.

I'm sure most of the humor is of a joking manner, not everyday someone comes to the boards looking for $50k of coins like its nothing.

    Best wishes buying! -Zach

Silvercent, sorry for what you are perceiving as a negative tone. Like others have posted, we just look at a very new member talking about a large purchase. We get these a lot, brand new members basically pummeling the board for a week and then leaving. Maybe we are too sarcastic or jaded by all of the newcomers wanting weird help then disappearing.

Someone with that kind of money usually would have had more of a feel for the market. If you would have started out saying how you have collected these for years, local market dried up, etc, I believe, (hope), you would have gotten a less sarcastic response.

Personally, I would go to a major show and meet some major dealers face to face. Explaing what you are looking for, and give them a chance to see what they say. Some of these guys have BU bags laying around, or know others who do. If you do not wish to wait until a show, I would suggest the large bullion dealers like APmex as a place to start.

Best of luck with it sir.
