1973 d Lincoln cent

    So I'm separating my coins as I'm going through the rolls and I see these 1973 d with the mint mark being higher than the other .couldn't find it anywhere. What's the story with that. IMG_20230107_004339858_HDR.jpg

    Maybe it's just a different die. I'm no expert but this sounds logical. ;):)

    Obviously different dies, and bear in mind the mintmarks on working dies were handpunched in the general area. That is why you find different positions and rotated mintmarks on those dated before 1990.

    expat is right. Hand-punched MM= various positions.

    Hand punched mint marks did that. It’s in the right area so is normal. I’d keep both to show the difference since the dates are the same.

    Thanks everybody. Makes sense since they were hand punched there's got to be a tendency for them not to come out exactly on all of them
