I was looking at another thread concerning an indian head type set, specifically an 1859 cent auction from yesterday. Anyways, I clicked on this similar auction and looked at the reverse under the zoom function. I noticed the letters in ONE and CENT appeared doubled. Is this any form of doubling that I am seeing, either Longacre or DDR, or could it just be strike doubling? BTW- I'm most certainly still learning and was just looking for some input. Thanks. Here is the auction: http://tinyurl.com/7axlzqf
It is commonly called 'Longacre Doubling' and is found on many IHCs and other series designed by Longacre.
Correct. OP, Just as a side note, if you are still in the early learning phases, try and stay away from listings such as this... nothing but sucker bait.
Also, you can reduce 300 characters of some bloated eBay (or any) URL at: www.tinyurl.com Has worked perfectly for me hundreds of times; much easier to process and copy.
Suckerbait because the color isn't correct? Aren't the 1859's supposed to be whiter if they indeed are "GEM BU"?
Sucker bait as in that coin is not anywhere near "GEM BU". To me it looks harshly cleaned, and completely dead of all luster.
I can only assume you mean "whiter" because of the copper/nickel composition. If so, "gem bu" has nothing to do with it... C/N is C/N regardless of grade. As for why its sucker bait, take a good look at his other offerings and compare similarities. Even if we overlook the juiced images, let's just say this seller should work more on his descriptions and less on his coins.
