$495 for a NGC graded MS 66 1900 Morgan seems to be a very fair price. I noticed a little place above the 'S' in 'States'. I asked the seller about it a few weeks ago and got no reply. It aapears he's been trying to sell the coin for a while. I asked him about it a second time and this time he replied the following: It is a little rim nick. Thanks Again. I don't know why he said 'again'. Anyway, is it likely that a Morgan could get a MS66 and have a nicked rim? It's not selling, so it seems apparent that the typically inflated ebay market isn't finding $495 worth of coin. However, I tend to think it's close to that, but the nick obviously hurts its value. And is there much likelihood it's fraudulent in some way, since MS66 is such a high grade and the coin's rim is 'nicked'?
Well running it on the NGC website verification section doesn't show any pictures of it to compare. To me $500 is a lot of money. If I am buying a coin at that price, I wouldn't want to have any damage on it. I don't care what it's graded at, to me it's a coin I wouldn't buy because every time I would go to look at it, my eye would be drawn to the damage and it would bother me seeing that. I'm not saying all my coins have to be flawless, it's just for that amount of money, for me, I wouldn't want any visible damage.
This is how I view all coins I buy...no matter the cost. If there is some unsightly feature that jumps out at me each time I view the coin...then every time I look at it it's going to bother me. I also agree that $500 is a lot of money...and I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a coin that has a feature that would bother me like that. This statement holds true for high dollar circulated coins too. Some coins wear very nicely and others (with the exact same grade) don't. I won't buy it if there is a problem on it that my eyes jump to.
I think I agree. Unless the coin was way under market value, that ugly flaw deflates the experience. Really sucks because the coin looks great otherwise. Of course, if it were nick-free, I'm sure he'd be asking a lot more as well. Thanks
Nice clean cheek and fields so a 66 is possible to me. As for buying it. That is up to you. Don't go looking for a $500 1893s Morgan that "wouldn't have any damage on it" as you'd be waiting and waiting to never see one for the $500.
