What do you think of the toning on this coin? I know some people like this sort of thing, but this doesn't look normal to me. Most coins I see of this type from this era are chocolate brown, so I really wonder about the way this looks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200786175535?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Doesn't look too right to me either. Seems kinda like some oily coat that might be reflecting some color, but I could be completely wrong
+1. Unless there's some luster that's not being showed in the pictures, the toning pattern is too abnormal and splotchy. I'm gonna go with AT (artificial toning).
I don't think its AT. I think it has been cleaned long ago and has since started toning. I don't like it one bit.
Wise choice, even if you completely forget about the toning. Look at the blown up pic of the obv - the field from the hair bun down to below the ribbon.
I see what you mean. I didn't even look at the blown up picture. This coin sold for a lot more than I would have expected anyway. I was thinking I'd bid maybe $3, and it sold for almost $10. I need about six halfpennies to complete that part of my set, and unfortunately they don't come up that often. Still, I'm trying to be disciplined and wait for one that's worth buying.
