They look like Chinese counterfeits. Have you checked them with a magnet?

    Magnet sticks to the 1878

Magnet does not stick to the 1873

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Goiloid should not be magnetic, should it?

I'm not familiar with Trade Dollars nor the Goloid.
They were in a lot I picked up and if they are worth anything its an added bonus, if not I send them back.

I thought with Trade Dollars the 420 Grains 900 Fine was written on one line, not two.

The first is a counterfeit Trade Dollar Pattern, the other is a counterfeit Goloid Dollar Pattern.

Very common counterfeits, both of which I have examples of in my own collection.

Both of these will also be featured on The Black Cabinet with full stats... once I get around to them. :)

EDIT: I have one variety of the 1873 Trade Pattern up already: http://fakes.numismetrica.com/2012/06/01/1873-trade-dollar-pattern-cf-t1-1873-0001/ With a couple more varieties left to go. Check for the die markers to see if it's the same type.
