Considering this coin for purchase. I have been looking for a high quality type 1. I just can't seem to make a decision. While there is no "make offer" button available, I was thinking of contacting the seller with an offer of $850 and see what happens. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1913-US-Buf...43632&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&#ht_1723wt_962
That is a beautiful coin. And I can tell you from personal experience that the seller is great to deal with. My avatar coin came from him. $850 is a good offer, good luck.
Here is the coin on Heritage. Talk about a difference in pictures. Confusing to me looking at the two sets of pictures. The serial number seems to be the same, but with it being a 67 I lean towards the luster in the Ebay auction. I think for a 67 I would want a better struck example that what heritage shows. Just my opinion and like I said it is confusing to me when looking at the two sets of pictures.
Not to dowse anyones enthusiam but I have doubts about it being a 67 and would continue looking. If that is a 67, then what is the grade of this? http://www2.mrbrklyn.com/buffalo_nickles.html
Dowse away Reuben, That is why I asked I have already replied to Mark's post and decided to look for a better example. Mike
Sorry, but your pictures do not show the luster that may be present - remember at times with tpgs(and I am not saying they are right) luster rules. To me you can have some weakly struck buffalos with this blazing luster that hides the weak strike. So grading these in the 66 and 67 range is hard if you can't see the luster. Thats why (on the original coin) the luster rules - but I also believe a well struck or fully struck type one can be found. Of course this is just my opinion.
If the coin is struck well, by traditional standards it won't have luster. It has that carved, almost matted look on a type I.
If you could take better pictures, I'd offer up a grade. Based on what I'm seeing in the current images, I'd say MS65, and that's being generous.
Firstly, this thread isn't about MrBrooklyn's coin...the OP was asking about a specific coin on eBay. It was hijacked by him to link to his poor quality photos. Secondly, I promise you (and I'd be willing to put money on it) that if the coin MrBrooklyn linked to was sent to PCGS it would come back in an MS65 or lower holder. So I'm not sure I understand what your comment is supposed to accomplish or what point it is supposed to make? That's all....carry on...
Anything can and does happen here, and it takes all kinds of people to make this great country of ours.
It is really hard to tell from that photo. It could very well be AU since the rim has some small dings. The light washes out the Buff's upper leg so I can't see whether the flatness from circulation has set in yet.... jom
Well, I like the picture and think it has great detail. As for its grade, I don't know anything about grading. From the original post, I don't think Ruben thinks it is a high MS graded coin.
Did you have problems following the conversation? I can explain it in as much simplification of words as needed someone to explain it if you need it. Although, I also have to admit, this is an open forum, and I'll post pretty much what I want, and if you think it breaks the rules, you know the procedure. Ruben
Well, this is a lot uglier picture but if you insist. http://www.mrbrklyn.com/coins/buffalo/dsc00209.jpg
