Hi friends The collection of the war-nickles is complete (thanks to the help from some members here.) So i started to go trough the rest of my brothers collection. There i came across of coins from all states in the US. Thanks to the donations i recieved in honour of my brother there are a few more now to. My idea is to get this set completed as my next goal. I noticed my brother was not realy in to collecting full sets, he was more someone who bought or got what he could get, but for me it looks easyer to do it set by set. So any information about these state coins or state quarters is welcome. Howmuch coins are there in total? Wich will be harder to get. ... Thank you Regards Herman
Congrats on the war nickel set, the statehood quarters are a fun collection to put together as well. There are 50 coins between 1999-2008 for the 50 states of the US, then 6 were released in 2009 that aren't states, but territories. http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/50sq_program/?action=designs_50sq http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_State_Quarters Good luck on the set! Edit: There are multiple mint marks as well for them the all come in P, D, S (proof), S (silver proof), and I believe starting in 2005 the mint sets contained satin finished coins, so for the complete set, theres a lot of coins.
I have seen that there are coins from 2011 in it to. Then my brother was wrong putting them in that set? Or are those also terretorie's? Regards Herman
Those are the America the Beautiful coins, they took a national park from each state and put it on a coin, they started in 2010 http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/atb/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_the_Beautiful_Quarters
There were 56 states and territories in the quarter sets. Starting in 2010 were the National Parks quarters.
Ok, thank you Now i know not to make the error of thinking those to be state quarters. I will try to make a list of those allready in the collection. Regards Herman
so when i got all the P, D and S coins of this link ( http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/...n=designs_50sq http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_State_Quarters ) i should have them all (exept for the silver ones and the proof ones)? By the way what is a proof coin?
A proof is a way of minting the coin, they use highly polished mirror like blanks, then use dies (which are changed much more often than on business strike (P,D coins)), and strike the coin several times, proof coins are not intended to be circulated http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_coinage
I think this needs clarification a bit. The State Quarters Program began in 1999. Quarters representing 5 states were issued each year in the order that those states joined the Union. This program continued until the 50th state, Hawaii, was honored in 2008. For each state, coins were struck in Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) for circulation strikes and San Francisco (S) for silver and clad proofs. So, in all, there were four distinctly different coins, either by mintmark or by composition, struck for each state - 200 in all. I've excluded the satin finish coins since this program didn't start until 2005, and they were only produced by the Philadelphia and Denver Mints in the Uncirculated Mint Sets. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to include them unless you want to. Chris
It is tricky to figure that out - I will try. 56 x pdss = 224; then add the satins 2005-2010 (6 years of satin sets) 6x5 (six years with 5 coins per year) x 2 (p and d mint marks) =60; add the 2 wisconsin errors total- 286 coins. Is that right?
If you want to look at it that way, sonny, it's okay with me. There is nothing like having half of a set that can never be completed. Chris
just read about albums for these coins. I have tried to find out about those albums, but it seems it is hard to get them here in Belgium. Just to make sure i understand the idea behind such albums a question about them. It is called a dansco album and if i understand it correctly it has slots for all the dates and mintmarks there are in a set? Is that correct? If it is it looks easyer for me to collect it in those albums, so i know how to sort them. Where could i find such albums online at a company that sends to Belgium to? Regards Herman
