Hi. I Was Wondering If I Should Keep The Statehood Quarters. I Have A Big Ziplock Bag Of Them. Are They Worth Keeping Or Spending. I Have The 2006 Whitman Bluebook And It Said The 1999, 2000 And 2001 Are All Worth Just A Quarter. I Don't Know If They Are Going To Be Worth Something Someday Or Not. Since They Only Minted Them For Two Weeks They Might Be A Rare Find. Most Of Them Are In Nice Shape But Some Are All Nicked And Scratched. Also Are The New Westward Journey Nickels Worth Saving? I Don't Find Them Very Often. Should I Spend Them Or Keep Them? Most Are In Good Shape. Thanks.
yes, I agree with GDJMSP, I started to save them when they first came out, never spent one, then in "03" I rolled them by state no-less and cashed them in and they paid for a weeks stay at a lodge in N.M. I am however saving a book each for the kids
Hi Coinlover Pick the very best of two each, and spend the rest save one for yourself and one to trade there are so many out there they will never be worth saving thats my opinion.
They wre each minted for ten weeks not two weeks, and due to greatly increased production they made almost as many coins in each of those ten week periods as they normally would have made in a full years production. The scarcest issue to date still has a large enough mintage that two out of every three people in the US can own one. When you consider that the number of collectors is about one out of every hundred people, then even for the rarest issue every single collector in the US can have about 66 of them.
Personally I keep an UNC from each mint plus my silver proof. Other than that I roll em and spend them. I did go to an auction this past Friday where they had a mixed lot of state hood quarters. The bid was for choice and I let the other two collectors duel it out. Final bid for the first rotation was $10. Not sure what he picked out of the pile for that much, but I didnt see anything worth that much. Second time through it was still up to $6 for choice. somebody somewhere will pay a hefty premium for certain state quraters, regardless of how serious collectors view them. do u think allowing them to be run over adn ground flat is a bad way to make them rarer? lol
