I guess I could have said $50 as well, but lets say $100. So what single US coin $100 or less in coinvalues or buy it now on ebay would you pick to be worth the most in 10 years Any denomination or grade, certificated or not, modern or not. I was active in collecting long ago and when I restarted in the last year, It was interesting which coins of my collection had gained the most value. Thanks.
I really don't know. 10 years is a long time and this coin market is too hot to make an accurate prediction, IMHO.
Make a note on your calendar to ask me on July 29, 2016, and if I'm still around I'll be glad to give you an accurate reply.
The 1927-s Standing Liberty Quarter is the one I'd choose, with a mintage of only 396,000 in VG-8 its only going for around $45. The only SLQ with a lower mintage is the 1916 which starts at $3,500 in G-4. I look for the 1927-s to skyrocket in a short amount of time.
I would expect more apprecaition for one $1000 dollar coin, od course it depends on the coin or coin(s)
I believe it would be very interesting if you can pick up copies of the new Red Book and compare it with the previous versions. That way you can make realistic data figures and possibly predict what coin values can possibly rise.
I guess I was asking for fortune telling, but I was more curious as to the types of coins. I do like the CuNi Indians like Bone and the SLQ from Indian was a little of a surprise as I don't collect them and only have a couple. I decided to check more into the history of that coin. I picked $100 because I felt that was a level that most coin collectors could consider, even many younger ones. My pick would be an 1894/94 IHC in best grade for the money. Thanks to all who responded.
My guess would be a plain old PCGS certified MS69 one-tenth ounce American Eagle gold coin will rise in value more than many coins that currently have large numismatic premiums to their bullion value.
Full step jefferson nickels..pre 1955 is possible, you can still find alot under $100 if you look hard. its a good investment, some full steppers already sell for $500-$2000. or better.
Cloudsweeper beat me to it. I would have said the 1/10 ounce eagle also. I'd agree that a coin currently worth $1000 will probably appreciate by a greater percentage than the 10 $100 coins, unless there is a total meltdown of coin collecting.
