Being a amateur coin collector and gaining all the knowledge I have from forums like this, it never ceases to amaze me when I watch this show, which my wife and I really like, how these guys hold certain documents or paper notes without gloves. Even some of the "experts" who come in do the same thing. What's up with that?
Coin graders don't wear gloves when they handle coins. Museum curators rarely wear gloves. Proper handling of items doesn't mean the use of gloved hands. After all, most artifacts survived the centuries long before the use of gloves and the worry of skin oils. I think they'll survive just fine. Guy
I never use gloves although i do not touch coins with dirty hands i thoroughly wash my hands with dawn dish soap (it strips most of the oils from your hands ) and i may wash my hands several times if im dealing with coins for awhile
