As some of you know I've been going through an old family coin collection, and I've run across something really strange. I found rolls and rolls of 1960 D Small Date pennies in all different grades. I was wondering, is there any reason they may have been specifically keeping these?

    Thank you!

In the early 1960s, the 1960D small date coins were thought to be scarcer than they really were, probably due to the 1960 (P) small dates which were scarcer than the D mint coins.

People (including a family member of mine) stashed away the 1960 small date coins. Since my family lived west of the Rockies, most of our hoarded 1960 Small Dates were D mint coins. I still have quite a few.
