I found this while rolling up my container of nickels today. It is a very dark coin. Something about it feels/looks/sounds different. It is a 1987 P My scale only measures whole grams and this weighed in at 6, where other nickels I have weighed in at 5. It makes a very different sound than other nickels I have too. Its probably nothing, but does anyone have ideas as to what I may have? Thanks,
Your pics are nice in that they zoom-up well but I'm outside and there's glare on my screen. From what I think I can make out through the glare it's tarnished and maybe a little corroded. That might affect the sound? I don't rightly know. On the weights on that scale, that 5 could be a 5.95, and that 6 a 6.05, bringing them both within tolerances. That, again, is just a guess, too.
On your scale, the actual weight could be 5.51 so it would register 6. Have you ever had your scale calibrated? Chris
The nickel has a very large tolerance range but it is still only .2 grams +/-. To get to 5.51 so the scale would read 6 grams would still put it WAY out of tolerance. Two and a half times the allowed tolerance.
