Hello all, I am new here. I was recently given a huge bucket full of lincoln wheat pennies. As I was going through them all I came across 3 indian head pennies, 2 liberty dimes, 2 silver lincoln pennies, and 2 miss print pennies. I was wondering if any of these are of value. I am attaching some photos also to my thread. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Also, is there any valuable wheat pennies? I have heard that some went for a lot of money on auction. Just curious what to look for since I have a huge bucket I figure what if I have have something in there!? Thanks again!
Ok, listen. Listen close. This is what you need to do. 1. Get in car. 2. Drive to Barnes and Noble 3. Buy the "red book" 4. Drive home 5. Look up the coins you have in the red book. 6. ????? 7. Profit.
If I had a Barnes and Noble that would be possible. But this small town I am in doesn't. I will have to either go hunting or buy it online! But thanks! I will for sure check into that!
Welcome to the neighborhood, biker! First, let's start with the Lincoln's which, in your words, appear to be silver. Unless they are dated 1943, they were probably dipped in mercury or some other chemical to turn them silver. If that is the case, it would be considered post-mint damage (PMD) and only worth face value. The IHC's also appear to be damaged, so they would only be worth face. The Winged Liberty dimes, aka Mercury dimes, are worth about $2 each in silver content. I assume your 60% off-center Memorial Lincoln does not have a date, so it's value would be harder to judge (for me), but keep in mind that there are plenty of bidiots on FleaBay. Chris
Thanks for the help. The two silver pennies are dated 1909 and 1953. Clearly on one you can see it was dipped for the silver has come off in a few spots. I figured the Indian heads would be worth something being as they are the oldest. But oh well. They are neat! they are dated 1902, 1899, 1907 and 1863. I seen a liberty dime same year as mine on ebay for around 80$ Must be them bidiots you were talking about. They are dated 1942 and 1944. And your correct about the miss prints. They both have no date and look very similar to where the penny was stamped.
The Mercury dimes on FleaBay are probably certified (slabbed) in higher grades because the condition of yours does not warrant more than about $2 each. Chris
Several things factor in to the price of $80 for the Liberty, or Mercury head, dimes. Condition, circulated v uncirculated; key dates, rarity, etc. Welcome to CT.
The Indian Head cents would be worth a little more than face, but their condition lessons their value. You could probably get 50 cents for the two more recent ones if lucky and a couple of bucks or a little more for the 1863 one, but hard to tell with your picture. The off center strike is quite dramatic and would fetch a premium, though I'm not too sure how much. If you want to find out, put a picture of that one coin in the Error Coins thread and you will have your answer.
