To date the most emails I've gotten is:
Mr. Brooklyn's "I like cleaned coins and you
should too." And Petro89's "Your newest foreign
    aquistition."

I had no idea there was so much interest in darkside.

I tried to find the checkbox that would stop the sending of emails every time someone posted in a thread. Haven't quite figured out where it is yet.

I think you have to unsubscribe from thread tools.

    1. Where is says this, go to Settings:

    Welcome, Cherd
    __Notifications__My Profile__Settings__Log Out

    2. There will be a list on the left hand side,, and go to General Settings:

    3. Under Messaging & Notifications, there will be a panel for Default Thread Subscription Mode. Click on "Through My Control Panel Only" and finally click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Do people in the US still use terms such as "dark side"? Whew.

However, the "cleaned coins" topic is pretty universal as far as I can tell. Also, at the bottom of every reply notification that I get, there are two links: "To unsubscribe from this thread, please visit this page" (...) and "To unsubscribe from ALL threads, please visit this page" (...) Have you tried those?

I think I get a better "sense of rythem" as to how
important something is to people from the email.
Even though you see it in the thread and page count
there's something about hearing that email alert
every ten minutes. And it's easier for me to jump
around different forums with email links.

Click "Settings" at the top right. On the Settings page, left side, is "Subscriptions".

Check whichever subscriptions you wish to manage, and at the bottom right is a drop down box : "Selected Threads" which will allow you to unsubscribe, or set your notification to Control Panel Only, Instant, Daily, or Weekly.

I'm not trying to unsubscribe from it. I like the feature.
    Is darkside considered derogatory?

Well, what you could do is: unsubscribe and then watch the "Recent Threads" box in the sidebar on the right. That would not take you to the first unread post (but to the start of the topic) though. But if you like the notifications, even better.

And as for "dark side", I don't think there is any derogatory intention behind its use, especially if one American collector says that to another American collector. But if one is on what you call the dark side - well, I'm not particularly fond of it. My hope was it would be a fad. There's still hope. ;)

What do you mean by "dark side"? That can have a lot of meanings depending on what you're talking about, but I don't know what you mean here. Like in my industry, if one is a journalist and gets a job in public relations, you say they went to the dark side.

I always thought "darkside" sounded kind of adventurous. Like
going up the Amazon river instead of main street. But I guess
    World coins works too.

    It's nickname for world coins.

I've never heard that before. As a world coin collector I don't see why it would be called that, but I guess anyone who is already on the dark side would see it differently. Join us ...

In a small way I have joined world collectors. For reasons
I can't explain I've become fascinated with the
stainless steel 50 centavos from Brazil.

Brazilian coins are really nice. One of the sets I'm working on is Brazilian reis coins after 1871.

It's really nothing more that when it's daylight on one side of the world it's night time on the other. It's all in your own perspective. People in China could call Americans darksiders, I wouldn't take offense.

Hmm, so that is why those US collectors who use such terms would call South American coins "dark side" pieces? Some also write "Gray Side" when it comes to Canadian coins. Somehow I don't quite believe this has anything to do with day and night. :D
