Hey Everyone, I have these gold coronets and I was wondering if these look like they might have any value over melt. I am certain the $5 is circulated, but I don't know about the $10. Thanks.
Neither really has a collector value over melt unless it is MS-60 or better. But please don't melt those coins.
Hard to say on the 1882, but it looks to be in the AU-55 to 58 range. The patch of hair over the ear is the key indicator. If that shows a break in luster, it is an AU, if not, I would call it a MS-63.
Happy to help. I have always been a fan of the Liberty gold. You can do an extremely cheap upgrade if you are putting together a type set.
Even after playing with the photos I cannot get a solid idea of overall surface conditions (82 $10) but from what I can see, you most likely would be looking low AU (assuming gradable). With all due respect, there is no chance it's MS. As for the 80-S, considering what it is, I kind of like it.. has character. Both are fine as-is and I hope you enjoy them as such.
Thanks for the reply. No worries about being MS or not really. i was just curious. These are from my dad, so the sentimental value outweighs the grade any day. Of course unless it was a 65.
