I've got a 2005 Philadelphia Lewis and Clark nickel where the reverse, for lack of a better description, is Sacagawea-colored. I don't think it's simple discoloration, because it's even, and completely covers the reverse up to -- but not including -- the rim. (Feel free to take a look at it, next to a "regular," at http://www.jots.org/~ken/nickels.jpg .) Is this an error? If so, is it a common one? Suggestions on what to do would be appreciated...

    Thanks,

    -Ken

Howdy ravenpi - Welcome to the Forum !!

It's possible it may be the result of a sintered planchet, but I think it more likely that it's just toning. Sintered planchets are usually a good bit darker.

Yea I'd say toning to. Sintered planchets are often a lot darker than that.
