The encapsulation *-portion-* of ANACS's operation is basic manufacturing - like Ford Motors, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, or the US Mint. Sounds like they're having mfg issues. I hope they get it straghtened out soon... after a while, it really affects public perception. Seems like it hard to live down a bad rep in numismatics - integrity is everything, especially for a TPG.
I forwarded this thread to Miles over at ANACS. Here is his reply Im sure the Coin can will be returned back to ANACS for Verification. Our holder is Tamper Evendent and Im sure we can help this Customer out if we get see the coin. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. Miles Standish Hope this helps. They do stand behind their product and service. I have first hand knowledge and I can also tell you that Miles is a man of his word. When you get the coin back, contact him, tell him this is the coin from the Cointalk forum.
Personally, I think it's too late for ANACS to fix the problem unless they change the design of the new holder to make it very obvious which holders are new holders, and which are new-new holders. If they don't do this, I won't buy anything in the new holder because there will never be a way to determine for sure if it is defective or not. It seems likely that they will be discounted like second tier grading companies. One of the most important rules in business is "protect the brand." ANACS didn't do it. Frequently, violations of the rule can't be reversed.
----That list really doesn't mean much because any coin collector that knows much knows that NCI and INS aren't worth a cent.....and SEGS isn't that grand---if they want to do a list like that they should have about 70+ grading companies.... Speedy
I'm not going to bother re-slabbing this coin, or even selling it again. When it comes back I'll just crack it out and throw it in the bag of junk silver from which it came. I'm going to try to do this carefully so I can see for myself if these new slabs can be cracked and reassembled.
That sounds like a more interesting experiment than trying to resell it. I hope you'll post again with your results.
Just curious, how much did he spend on the coin? I save franklins, EDITED--Sorry but no offers to buy/sell/trade I'd rather trust ANACS grading than PCGS! More realistic grading. Like I've said in the past; grading of coins is just an opinion, and everyone has a their own opinion. Contact me with a pic. bikerpam
