Hey guys and gals of the error community! I have a question on this well beat up Jefferson Nickel. I have read somewhere about improper annealing where the copper particles in the annealing ovens bake onto the Nickel while they take their turn (or something like that) resulting in a copper looking Nickel or a "Black Beauty". Well, I am not too sure on this one and came to you people for further examination. The First set of pics is from sunlight and the second from camera light.
Looks torched, IMO. Considering that the nickels are composed of 75% Copper, lighting the sucker on fire, I would think, would expose some of that Copper core. But what do I know! -Brian
Cool! I'm not an expert on errors but if it is improper annealing, then good find! :thumb:I found a nickel like that once and I wondered if the weird coloration was an error, but I wasn't sure so i spent it. Probably not the best idea on my part.
I was under the impression that nickels were a CuNi alloy and thus there is no "copper core." But, I could be wrong.
Okay, so from what I am hearing is that it isn't. I'll let it go through another few days before I go spend it.
