I am trying to find information on a 1791 Soli Redvci Italian coin. I know absolutley nothing about coins and only found information on-line that is written in Italian. Can anyone help? If I have done this right there should be a picture of the coins.

I can't help you with any information, but that's one of the cooler coins I've seen lately.

Let me know if you hear of any body that knows anything. I would really appreciate it.

What is the diameter of your coin?

Knowing that would greatly reduce the work involved in trying to find it on the nearly 100 pages devoted to the Italian States in the 18th Century Standard Catalog of World Coins. In 1791 the nation of "Italy" was still non-existant and there were literally dozens of kingdoms/city states/foreign occupied areas, each churning out it's own coins. :)

    Hi casscos,

This seems to be a Naples piastre commemorating a trip that King Ferdinand IV and Queen Maria Carolina took to Austria with their daughters. That band on the reverse shows four astrological signs, with the sun in Capricorn. (I know nothing about this stuff; I looked it up.) It seems that these were the signs that followed their departure from Naples. And you can see that the sun is shining right down on the boot of Italy.

According to Krause (a catalog of world coins), these should weigh 27.5320 grams. If you have the coin in hand, it's a good idea to weigh it. It can weigh the right amount and still be a fake, but a significant discrepancy in weight will tell you it's counterfeit.

I don't have the experience to give you an opinion of the coin's authenticity.

Is it just me, or are online language translators messing with us? When I asked for a translation of soli reduci, it came back as "single veterans." :D

The diameter of the coin is 1 1/2 inches or 4 centimeters. I will need to fine a scale to weigh the coin.
